Editorial policy
This page explains how we research what we publish, how we keep it honest, and how to tell us when we’ve got something wrong.
How pages are researched
- Buying guides and reviews are based on manufacturers’ published specifications, UK retailer listings and what matters to someone training at home.
- Olympic and history pages are checked against World Rowing and British Rowing sources where we can read them.
- Health and injury pages follow NHS guidance where it exists. They’re general information, not medical advice.
- Club profiles are based on each club’s own website where we can read it, then its national federation’s listing, then news and regatta results.
- Pace offsets and session targets are rules of thumb, and we say so.
Research-based and hands-on
A research-based guide works from published specs, listings and rowing knowledge. Nobody has used the machine for that guide. A hands-on guide means one of us has actually used it. We don’t claim to have tested machines we haven’t used, and every guide says which it is. We don’t take free kit.
How prices are checked
Prices come from manufacturers and UK retailers, and are written as “around £X” with the date we checked. Buying guides also show a “Prices checked” line at the top. Prices change, especially around sales, so the retailer’s price at checkout is the one that counts. We don’t quote Amazon’s prices on our pages.
How affiliate links work
Some links earn us a commission if you buy, at no extra cost to you. Pages with affiliate links carry a notice at the top, and the links are marked as sponsored in the code. Commission doesn’t decide what we recommend. Ouraffiliate disclosure has the details.
Photos
We use openly licensed photos, press images where the terms allow it, and our own generated title cards. Every sourced photo carries a credit line, and we keep a record of its source and licence. Photos may be resized, cropped or recompressed to fit the page.
Corrections
If you find a mistake, email [email protected] with the page and what’s wrong. We’ll check it and correct the page if needed. Each article shows the date it was last updated.
